Why Take This Course?
A lot of people can find themselves in an awkward place of needing to get a project over the finish line, but without ever having been shown the ways professional project managers go about their business. The result is often a blizzard of emails, spreadsheets, calendars, chaos, short tempers, missed deadlines, and unhappy clients. Fortunately, learning even a few of the basics can go a very long way towards creating a saner, smoother, happier process. In this two-part workshop, we’ll give you plenty of practical tips for delivering both traditional and digital projects on time, on budget, and without ulcers.
Course Description
In this workshop, we’ll cover processes, best practices, and technology support to help you deliver a wide range of projects from printed pieces to events to websites, as we tick off these topics:
Planning: Getting everyone on the same page about the scope, critical time and cost parameters of your project
Cost control: Estimating a project, building change orders, setting a staffing plan, and reporting on the final costs
Scheduling: Creating and maintaining realistic schedules, while giving clients adequate time for review and approval
Relationships: Ways to keep clients and team members on-task, while building their satisfaction with the project
Communications: Keeping clients and colleagues informed about what they need to know, without burying them in so much detail that they ignore it all
Who Should Take This Class?
This workshop is for anyone working on digital design, graphic design, or environmental design projects who is responsible for the successful management of project timelines, resources, and budgets.
