Why Take This Course?
We’ve all been there. You get a layout looking just right, and then word comes down that they need 10 additional sizes. Or could you add a bunch more text? And so you dive back in, tweaking each element as you go. With Figma Auto Layout you can instruct frames and components to fill, shrink-to-fit, or reflow as their content or size changes. While it may be a little tricky to learn in the beginning, you’ll be rewarded with hours of time saved when you get into the Auto Layout groove.

Course Description
In this class, we’ll combine demonstration and hands-on practice to become very familiar with Auto Layout in Figma. Here are a few of the topics we’ll be covering:

  • Understanding layout flow and canvas stacking order

  • Situations where you want to enable “Ignore Auto Layout” for absolute positioning

  • Working with gaps between items, padding, and strokes in layout

  • Setting alignment on child objects, adjusting text baselines, resizing, and using the “Fill container” and "Hug content” settings

  • Applying constraints to define how layers resize

  • Troubleshooting Auto Layout problems

Prerequisites and Requirements
You must already be familiar with Figma basics. We recommend you have a dual-monitor setup when you take this class. The Figma software we’ll be using for this course is free.
