career SKILLS: Linkedin for job hunters

Why Take This Course?
Consider yourself lucky to be job-hunting in the age of LinkedIn. This surprisingly sophisticated tool can help you track down the people you need to know as well as the ones who need to know you. Assuming you already have some sort of basic LinkedIn profile, come listen to a true LinkedIn expert to find out what’s involved in supercharging your page for a great impact.

Course Description
There’s far more to LinkedIn than having a profile and making new connections. LinkedIn is likely the one thing that gets looked at most often when others want to get a sense of your personal brand. So how do you manage that brand, and tap into all of LinkedIn’s features? Join us for an interactive walk-through of the entire process — optimizing your profile, inviting connections, nurturing your network, joining groups, writing recommendations, and status updates. We’ll pay special attention to the cues that HR, recruiters, and hiring managers care about as we cover these topics:

  • Writing a LinkedIn profile that attracts more attention and views in searches

  • Telling a captivating story that sets you apart, a.k.a. your personal brand

  • Nurturing your network for results, and why you actually might want to follow up on those “Joe Blow has a new job” announcements

  • Affinity searching; who is that someone, and why they might help you

Who Should Take This Class?
This mini-workshop is for current students and graduates of SVC’s certificate program – in other words, aspiring UX and content designers looking to successfully land their first job or a new job – even if they’re not quite ready to start looking.
