Why Take This Course?
Even in the current economy, there are still thousands of postings for careers in UX Design and Content Design on national job sites these days. Around 8 percent of them, surprisingly, are for entry-level jobs. These are jobs that, according to Glassdoor, pay an average of $95,000 (yes, we’re talking about those entry-level jobs). So, it’s understandable that lots of people are curious about what these jobs entail and how to prepare to go get one. If you’re the kind of person who appreciates logic and organization, and you have a strong sense of empathy for others, then this field – and this workshop – could be a very good choice for you.
Course Description
Designing successful user experiences requires starting with the users’ needs and then going from there. So, in this workshop, we’ll begin by acquainting you with the practices of user-centered design, and explaining how research unlocks those user needs and preferences. Then we’ll step through the different skills that go into product design — information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, and testing — so you can get a solid 30,000-foot view of the practice. It’s a lot to cover, but it will give you a great foundation to decide if UX Design or Content Design is for you or to kick off your studies if you’re ready to get started. Here are a few of the topics we’ll plan to cover:
The concept and purpose behind user-centered design
User research, competitive audits, and heuristics
Information architecture, user flows, taxonomies, and wireframing
Interaction design, and building high and low-fidelity prototypes
Usability testing and metrics for success
Career-readiness for UX Design and Content Design roles
