Why Take This Course?
You need two kinds of talent to make it as a professional designer: the hard skills you’ll call on every time you sit down to solve a design problem, and the soft skills you’ll use to get your clients and colleagues to support you and your ideas. It’s been said that three-fourths of employers judge both sides of the skill equation equally. So what are the most important soft skills and how do you learn to excel at them? That’s the entire point of this class.
Course Description
In this course, we’ll turn to a combination of lecture and practice — and then even more practice — to help you master the non-technical side of your job. Our aim will be to give you soft skills mastery you’ll use while getting your portfolio together, and then on the job. We’ll cover these topics and more:
Speaking, listening, and truly hearing colleagues and clients
Receiving and delivering criticism of your work
Improving your communication skills
Becoming a better collaborator, problem solver, team member, and leader
Learning how to become a better time manager
Building self-awareness and your ability to empathize
