Why Take This Course?
Working as a UX writer is more than just the words you write, it’s also about how you collaborate with your team, your stakeholders, as well as other UX writers. With so much work and so little time, that usually means using tools that may be a little bit beyond your typical Word document or spreadsheet. And that’s where Figma comes in. With this amazingly intuitive, design-focused (but UX-writer-friendly) tool, you can work quickly and effectively with your teams. Because Figma has created their tool for both designers and content folks, it’s become the favorite of teams doing UX and content design at the highest levels. If it still sounds scary, it’s really not. Figma can be your friend.

Course Description
We’ll combine demonstration, hands-on practice, a wee bit of lecture, a fun homework assignment, and a lot of practical experience to get you super comfortable working in Figma over the two sessions of this workshop. Here are a few of the topics we’ll be covering:

  • What it means to use  Figma as your primary writing tool (rather than Word or Google Docs) as a UX writer/content designer

  • Learn Figma’s most important tools: Shapes, text formatting, feedback, and plug-ins

  • How to best organize your frames, pages, and files

  • Using components, libraries, and design systems to speed up projects

  • Using Figjam, Figma’s fun sibling, to brainstorm ideas with your team

  • Making sure you don’t have to worry about “breaking designs” by archiving, recovering, and undoing actions

Prerequisites and Requirements
There are no prerequisites, but we recommend you have a dual-monitor setup when you take this class. The Figma software we’ll be using for this course is free.
